Bulbuls at the Taj Mahal / Rinku Dutta

Nothing depends on
the nesting of two
red-vented bulbuls in
a cypress bush

beside the water channel
that reflects the exquisite
mausoleum King of the World
Shah Jahan dedicated to

the memory of his beloved
Mumtaz: his sorrowful teardrop
designed to forever glisten
on the cheek of Time. They

live, love, raise chicks
and die with carefree
ease; their flights unburdened
by quests for permanence. Or
remembrance
