Grain / Simon Ravenscroft

Trace the grain
of the earth
with your finger
you’ll see there it
will be
stuttering
close your eyes
and you’ll feel it
incandescent
flickering
radiant and
glowing
darkly bright
you cannot
grasp it
that thing that’s
gone
from the world
indelible
heart of the
invisible root
you cannot
grasp it
the
lightness
of gravity
and the weight
of the very
air

Simon Ravenscroft lives in Cambridge, England. He is a Fellow of Magdalene College at the University of Cambridge. His poetry and prose has appeared recently in Meniscus, Trampoline, Red Ogre Review, The Alchemy Spoon, Swifts & Slows Quarterly, JAKE, Ranger Magazine, Ink Sweat & Tears, and other places.
