How to Behave at a Singles Bar / John Grey

With lack of blemishes,
achieve a mystic aura,
go from barely thought of at all
to a necessity,
get the men where it inflames:
the internal juices,
don’t just wear stuff,
squeeze into it,
imitate peaches and hourglasses,
open your eyes wide
for inspection by light,
project softness
inside and out,
and promote your face
as both subject and object,
no unnatural pigments,
nothing that looks painted on,
and make sure your claws
stay well hidden by paws,
subtly skirt the masculine perimeter.
with perky nose and shape,
reject those already drunk,
avoid the so-obviously primal,
flow like a river
through the handsomely accessible,
but don’t act like you’re shopping,
after all,
you’re the goods.

John Grey is an Australian poet, US resident, recently published in New World Writing, River And South and The Alembic. Latest books, “Bittersweet”, “Subject Matters” and “Between Two Fires” are available through Amazon. Work upcoming in Paterson Literary Review, White Wall Review and Flights.
