Just Before / Magda Kapa

19920026

The cold outside breaks the night.
Silence. No one wants to
witness this death.
I, too, stay in bed and pretend
sleeping somewhere else.

One could whisper to the trees;
they would move their branches
through the window to, at least,
save one of my dreams
in a bird nest.

Then, falling back to sleep, like a child,
before even this sentence is finished,
in a hurry, before the world ends.
Just before.
