The Hook-Billed Kite / Tom Snarsky

The scary part of love is that it’s simple

arithmetic: golden plovers congregating

over the sea, or the hook-billed kite lazing

with its family group over Texas. Death

stands such precious little chance

against a flock of birds, although it takes

its human lovers with embarrassing ease.

Tom Snarsky teaches mathematics at Malden High School in Malden, Massachusetts, USA.
