Happy Republic Day / Carol D’Souza

For S

Teal on the curtains
Navy on the sheets
Such warmth to be had
in this cool blue room
Evening in two parts
A badminton interlude
You wouldn’t miss it, would you,
if you saw it,
what love looks like?
And freedom
Amid comfort and conversation,
my body arched at your fingertips
This abandon
Later, our laughter breaking out
of your acoustically compromised room
Heralding the solemn day
to the still-sleeping citizenry

Carol D’Souza: tea-drinker, walker
